Spriting

So as you all know, I dislike spriting. I wouldn't say I hate it; but I would say it's not on my list of favorite things. It is on my list of unfavorite things, though, down there with ironing out ACS errors.

Well, I thought my days of spriting were over when I discovered this site. At first, I was very excited. No more spriting! I just pose my pony, download the shot, pop it into GIMP to resize it, and name it the right name.

And then I realized something.

That might work for the pegasi [lost souls], but the earth ponies and unicorns, not so much. Under the storyline, they're holding guns; and that's definitely not an option on the site. Also, when I get to bigger enemies, such as the Spider Mastermind and Cyberdemon, there's no way I'm making a giant pony. That's just silly.

On the dark side, this means that I will have to make my own pony sprites. Again. And to keep things looking good, I'll need to do all eight rotations (normally they mirror them to save memory; if the gun is only on one leg it'll look like Zecora's leg bands flipping legs for no reason except every time they walk).

On the brighter side, I now have designs and references for almost all the pony enemies (I've tried to keep the color schemes of the original monsters. I feel quite clever). I'll also be able to design pony-usable guns. That's interesting, too.
